April Is National Car Care Month
April is National Car Care Month
In most of the country spring brings a big weather change and while we do not have to worry about getting the snow tires off our car as the temperatures warm we still have some routine maintenance that should be triggered by the season change. Face it, spring in Ridgeland gets hot, summer gets hotter. After the mild winter months of low strain on our cars it is time to check a few things before the stress of hundred degree days kicks in.
The Car Care Council has a great website that explains all of the maintenance most cars need. They have videos about how and why, they have information about finding a good shop, and they have tips to help you get better mileage, performance and life out of your car. We highly recommend that you check it out.
A few of the things we suggest you take a look at this time of year are;
Your battery; after months of low stress service you may have a borderline battery that will fail in the high heat of summer
The cooling system; again the lower temperatures of winter in Ridgeland do not place much demand on the cooling system and even a marginal one will get by. Until the temps climb to the 90’s or above. Then you can end up stuck on the side of the road with the second most common failure, overheating.
Tires; a flat tire is the most common reason to be stranded on the road. In most cases totally preventable by a routine tire inspection a couple of times a year. When is the last time you looked at any part of your tire other than the outside?
Ridgeland Tire And Auto will do a pre-summer checkup free of charge, just call the office and schedule a convenient time. (843) 726-8771.
